One day we toured the city via Segways

but most days we were on foot

The Hotel Atlantico...our home away from home...
on Madrid's famous Gran Via!

The view from our hotel looking down on the Gran Via.

Inside the Almudena Cathedral

Ceiling above the altar inside Almudena Cathedral

Picasso's "Guernica" @ Madrid's modern art museum

Saturday in the park

Living in Madrid

Living in Madrid...movin' on up

here's the Lovely Laura astride her trusty Segway

...and Matt upon HIS trusty steed.

a typical Madrid street

The Plaza Mayor...a major meeting spot...shops...cafes...street performers...artists

inside the Plaza Mayor looking out an entry way

Matt hangin' @ an outdoor cafe

and too Laura

the tower of the church of Santo Tome (St. Thomas) in Toledo...no, not Ohio...Spain! In this church is the artist El Greco's most famous painting: "The Burial of Count Orgaz"...yes, we saw it.

The view from Toledo

A narrow (a little more than 6 feet across) Toledo street

Laura & Matt with Madrid's Royal Palace and gardens

statue of a Spanish King who had defeated someone in battle...thus, standing on the conquered foe's head

The Royal Palace...aka...The Palacio Real de Madrid

Puerto del Sol (Spanish for "Gate of the Sun") @ night...another gathering spot...on this spot was one of the gates in the city wall that surrounded Madrid in the 15th century.

A typical Madrid tapas bar...is that ham (with the hoof) hangin' on the wall?...yep!
